Game modes in Disney Speedstorm are the options to test players' skills and resourcefulness in various environments. Each of the game modes serves a different purpose and offers a wide range of unique rewards for completing specific missions. The game offers both singleplayer and multiplayer modes so that each player could discover the most enjoyable experience.

Game modes get unlocked one by one after the player has met certain requirements listed in the menu for each mode separately. The content in some modes is permanent while in others it is temporary and gets replaced as soon as the given timer runs out.

Each race consists of up to 8 players maximum.

Season Tour Mode

Season Tour, known as Adventure Map in Closed Beta, is the second mode to be unlocked. The tooltip in-game suggests players to "drive through this incredible adventure". This mode has different seasons and a timer to indicate how much longer the current season is going to last. The Season Tour is very similar to the Starter Circuit, it has a number of chapters with goals to complete and rewards to receive. However, this mode is concentrated on one Seasonal Collection (for example, the Incredibles), and, starting from Chapter 2, many races require a character from the featured Collection. A lot of races are focused on reaching top-3, top-2 and winning but there are other diverse goals. This mode also introduces Mystery Boxes with 2 tries at a time and, consequently, more rewards.

This is the main Singleplayer mode in the game.



Starter Circuit

Starter Circuit Mode

Starter Circuit, known as Starter Map in Closed Beta, is the first game mode players encounter. It is a tutorial to practice the game mechanics at a slow pace with helpful tips along the way. Completing the chapters unlocks other parts of the game: game modes, menus, and shop.

Each character needs to complete various challenges and achieve Race Goals that differ from one race to another (stunning opponents, using manual boost, drifting, winning the race, etc). Completing a few challenges results in getting a reward from the Rewards Box: Racer Shards, Crew Shards, cosmetic items and Upgrade materials. All the featured characters are given a chance to try out different maps, and Additional settings appear in each Chapter: Boss Challenge or Single Skill Challenge.



Tournaments

Tournaments Menu

Tournaments are an additional game mode to obtain Racer and Crew Member Shards, avatars, mottos and cosmetics for characters from previous Collections that the player has unlocked. Tournaments are located in a Vault dedicated to one specific Collection.


PLAY

Ranked Multiplayer

Ranked Multiplayer Mode

Ranked Multiplayer, known as Ranked Races in Closed Beta, is a competitive mode to race against other real players to rank up the Racers and climb the leaderboards, earning exclusive cosmetics. There are no selectable limitations of levels, tiers or Racers and no option to choose a map. Each race gives Score Points to increase MPR (MultiPlayer Rank). Each new rank gives MP coins that can be spent in the Shop to upgrade cars.

Players can choose Team Mode or Solo Mode right from the main screen menu and then hit PLAY to start queuing for a Ranked Race. Players can also invite friends to play together by pressing a + sign on the main screen.

This is the main Multiplayer mode in the game.

Limited Events Mode
Limited Events Mode

Limited Events mode is a set of side missions rotating daily or weekly. Players can complete seasonal and limited-time events to get Seasonal Coins, Upgrade Coins or Racer Shards.

Missions have a level system:

Regulated Multiplayer Mode

Regulated Multiplayer is a competitive multiplayer mode that focuses solely on skill without Racer upgrades. It is a leveled playing field where only driving matters:

Private Track Mode
Private Track Mode

Private Track, known as Online Quick Races in Closed Beta, is a multiplayer mode. Here players create a party selecting all the preferred parameters from the menu and then send a cross-play code to other players outside the game. The direct invite system is not implemented.

This mode does not affect the multiplayer level, does not give MultiPlayer Coins or any other rewards. It is designed purely for the pleasure of the players who wish to race against specific people rather than randomly chosen ones from the general pool.

To join a party, only a code is needed.



Local Freeplay

Local Freeplay

Local Freeplay is the only split-screen mode in Disney Speedstorm. It allows players to compete in a local environment without being connected to the Internet. There is a possibility to play with friends using one game account and a few controllers/keyboards connected to the device to control the characters; and there is also a possibility to play against AI both solo and in a team.

The number of AI can be set before the race but following the rule that there can only be 8 players maximum. If there is 1 human player, there can be from 1 to 7 AI competing against them. If there are 2 human players, there can be from 1 to 6 AI players, and so on.


There is a possibility to choose a specific map or opt for a randomly assigned track. After choosing a map, there following things can also be customized:


The Speed setting affects the Star level and the Upgrade level the characters are going to have.



Additional settings available in various modes

Last One Standing

Last One Standing, known as Elimination Mode in Closed Beta, is an additional level of difficulty that spices things up by focusing on each player's position. At the beginning of the race, each character gets white spherical drones to accompany them throughout the game and provide protection against 5 black and red drones, that appear if the player is on the last position and start shooting them after a few seconds of following. Tricksters, Brawlers and Speedsters have 2 white drones while Defenders have 3. After a short period of being attacked by the hostile drones, one of the white ones explodes into a protective sphere and pushes the player forwards with high speed (often moving them from the last place to the first). This is done to ensure that everyone gets the chance to turn the tide of the race. However, after all the extra protection is gone, getting attacked by the evil drones is fatal, and the player is out.

To avoid being hit, the only necessary requirement is to drive faster than at least one other Racer.

Boss Challenge

Boss Challenge races are all about increased challenge and overcoming a designated rival AI Racer who does everything in their power to leave the player in their dust. When progressing through Season Tour maps, players frequently find their path blocked by a Boss and need to outpace them in order to move on.

Each and every Boss Challenge race has a designated rival Racer that needs to be defeated in order for the player to progress further in the Season Tour. There are still 6 other Racers to contend with as well, but the player have to keep their eyes on the rival Racer.

Rival Racers have significantly higher stats than the other AI Racers and are extra competitive, doing everything in their power to knock the player out of contention and always focusing them.

Whether it is manholes blowing their top in Toon Village or fire-breathing statues in the Jungle Ruins, the race environment itself is at its most difficult in Boss Challenge. If a player is hit by one of these obstacles, they get stunned so it is important to avoid them.

Hazards and obstacles are present in other race types as well, but the amount present on the track is dependent on the difficulty rating of the race. In Boss Challenge, the maximum amount of hazards and obstacles are always present which requires a lot of dodging.

Floating Objects

In Floating Objects races, all the skill boxes and speed boosters can be found up in the air, with players needing to hop in order to reach them. Players must time their jumps perfectly to acquire the skills or touch the boosters, putting their race craft and dexterity to the test. Jumping from booster to booster will also result in some amazing chain jumps!

Fog Challenge

In Fog Challenge races, the map is covered in fog, making it difficult to see the track ahead. The Mini Map is also removed, making it harder for players to figure out the shape of the track and where they are located on it. This mode rewards dedicated players who know the ins and outs of each track!

Single Skill

In Single Skill races, skill boxes award all players with the same skill for the entirety of the race. For example, all players will pick up the Fire Skill every time they hit a skill box. The skill players are going to be using is determined before the race starts and there is even the possibility that Unique Skills are the only pick up possible. These races will test players' creativity on the track and teach them all about each specific skill and its uses (regular, charged, and backwards activations).

Color Match

In Color Match, all Racers and Skill Boxes have a purple or green hue. Players need to aim for Skill Boxes that match their current color while racing to reap rewards in this mode. Hitting a matching Skill Box will grant players a skill and a speed boost while hitting the wrong color will stun them.

Players change color automatically every 30 seconds.

Follow the Leader

In Follow the Leader, all Racers leave a long visible slipstream trail behind them. Staying in another player’s slipstream grants them a large amount of Manual Boost. Using Cloak can help hiding the slipstream.
