Racers are playable characters in Disney Speedstorm. Each of them is based on Disney or Pixar universe and has a fictional character prototype.
All Racers have a set of skills that players can use during the race. Additionally, each character has a unique ability that resembles their personality or their original story. All Disney Speedstorm characters can be grouped by franchises or Collections they come from:
Racers can be part of the Original Roster, Seasonal and Mid-Season.
- Original Roster Racers have been part of the game since the Closed Beta stage and never had their own Season (except for Pirates of the Caribbean).
- Seasonal Racers are added to the game with their respective Season. They are given Season Boxes, some of them are part of the Golden Pass, and when their Season ends, they are added to the Universal Box and can be unlocked using Season Coins.
- Mid-Season Racers are an addition that comes during an active Season and does not have to be related to any of the current Collections, or might expand some of the existing ones. Mid-Seasonal Racers always have their own Limited Event (sometimes more than 1), but they are not added to the Universal Box and cannot be unlocked for free after their event ends. Sometimes the events return and give new players a possibility to unlock the desirable Racer, and sometimes there is an offer in the Shop to purchase a Shards Pack / a Special Box to unlock them (Tokens only).
Each new Racer needs to be unlocked with special Racer Shards. After unlocking, the Racer can be upgraded using Upgrade Coins and more Racer Shards.
NOTE: Star Tier is different from character upgrade level.
- Character upgrade level: each new level increases character statistics (Top-Speed, Acceleration, Handling, Boost, Combat). To level up Racers players use Upgrade Coins and Racer Shards. The higher the level, the faster/easier to handle the character is. Some quests require a certain character level to participate.
- Star Tier: Starring up the Racer unlocks more Crew Member spots, enables using and upgrading Unique Skills and also unlocks the power of 2/4 skills the Racer can use. Each Racer has a unique set of skills and half of them can become more powerful depending on the number of stars this Racer has (from 2 to 5). Starring up a Racer goes hand-in-hand with upgrading the Racer and requires Racer Shards and Upgrade Coins.
- Supercharging: after a Racer reaches level 50, their Unique Skill and Nitro can be upgraded further by using Supercharge Shards.
Each Racer has 5 statistics that increase when upgrading the character or assigning Crew Members:
- Top Speed: Maximum speed of a Racer.
- Acceleration: How fast a Racer accelerates.
- Handling: How well a Racer turns & drifts.
- Boost: How long a Racer’s boost lasts, the rate of nitro consumption.
- Combat: The duration of stun applied when hitting or being hit by rival Racers.
