Origin

Sultan is a supporting character in Disney's 1991 animated feature film, "Beauty and the Beast". It is a dog that lives in the castle and that is transformed into a footstool after the Enchantress put a spell on the Beast's castle and all its inhabitants turning them all into furniture and the prince himself into the Beast.

Sultan is amiable and playful, not changing its personality even after having been turned into a footstool. He quickly takes a liking to Belle as much as to everyone else in the castle and never stops being her little friend. I

His first appearance as a transformed footstool happens when Maurice, having lost his way in the woods, enters the castle. Sultan approaches Maurice as he tries to sit in the Beast's chair, and Maurice pets him. Sultan then positions himself in front of the chair to offer a place for Maurice to rest his feet and find comfort. When Belle arrives at the castle, Sultan shows excitement, running out to play in the snow and eagerly accepting Belle's affectionate hug.

As the conflict escalates with Gaston and the villagers attacking the castle, Sultan plays a role in drawing the attention of Lumiere, Cogsworth, Mrs. Potts, and Fifi towards the intruders by barking at them. In the midst of the battle, Sultan faces danger as he flees from LeFou and other villagers who attempt to harm him, triggered by an incident involving a stolen shoe. However, the castle's enchanted elements come to his rescue, with knives emerging from drawers and the Stove springing to life to frighten off the villagers, ultimately saving Sultan.

When Chip rides Sultan, and both are restored to their original forms – Sultan becomes a normal dog again while Chip transforms back into a human boy. Watching Belle and the Prince's dance during the final scenes, Sultan takes part in the celebration.

In the Special Edition-exclusive song "Human Again", Sultan contributes to the storyline by creating some disruptions in the ballroom during the cleaning process, leaving "pawprints" that add to the mess. Additionally, he playfully chases a pillow that resembles a cat, playfully referencing the humorous trope of dogs pursuing cats.
