Origin

Sleepy is one of the support characters in Disney's 1937 animated feature film "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs". He is one of the dwarfs whom Snow White meets in their cottage. His name comes from him being constantly drowsy.

Sleepy, along with the other dwarfs, works in the Dwarfs' Mine, where he oversees the cart that transports diamonds to Doc for sorting. The cart is pulled by a deer, and at one point, a fly distracts Sleepy, leading him to accidentally hit the deer's backside. This sends the cart—and Sleepy—flying. On the way home, the dwarfs sing "Heigh-Ho", but Sleepy, too tired to join in, simply trudges along in fourth place, between Happy and Bashful.

When they reach their cottage, the dwarfs notice a light inside and immediately assume a monster has taken over. Cautiously sneaking in, Dopey peeks through Sleepy's beard as they search the place. They quickly realize that someone has cleaned everything—so well that Sleepy and Sneezy momentarily think their dishes are missing, only to find them neatly stacked in the cupboard. Convinced the intruder is upstairs, Doc sends Dopey to investigate. Dopey panics and runs back down, causing the others to freak out. Eventually, they head upstairs, prepared to fight—only to discover Snow White fast asleep. She wakes up and guesses the name of each dwarf, naming Sleepy third. After some back-and-forth, they agree Snow White can stay if she cooks and cleans. Before dinner, she insists they wash up, which Sleepy reluctantly does—while a fly amusingly scrubs itself on the soap nearby. That night, the dwarfs and Snow White have fun with singing and dancing, though Sleepy keeps getting annoyed by the fly. He eventually falls asleep by the fireplace.

When the Queen poisons Snow White, the dwarfs chase the Witch up a mountain, where lightning strikes and sends her tumbling to her doom. Heartbroken, they build a glass coffin for Snow White, unable to bury her. Sleepy mourns his friend—until the Prince's kiss awakens her. Happy to know that Snow White is alive, they cheer and prepare to say goodbye, while Snow White kisses each dwarf and rides away along with the Prince.
