Origin

Surge Protector is a minor character in Disney's animated films "Wreck-It Ralph" (2012) and its 2018 sequel. He takes the role of overseer within Game Central Station, presiding over the arcade's diverse inhabitants. Despite his position, he often finds himself the target of jokes by other characters, including Ralph and Vanellope.

Initially appearing in "Wreck-It Ralph", the Surge Protector stops Ralph enquiring about his actions in "Pac-Man", conducting a routine security check that Ralph calls regular. Later on, Surge Protector reappears as Ralph walks into the new game "Hero's Duty" and later hurtles through Game Central Station aboard a shuttle. When Fix-It Felix Jr. and Sergeant Calhoun ask for Ralph's whereabouts, the Surge Protector directs them to "Sugar Rush", where Ralph has been inadvertently dispatched.

In "Ralph Breaks the Internet", the Surge Protector appears again six years later. Upon Mr. Litwak's introduction of a Wi-Fi router, the Surge Protector quickly seals off the entrance, wary of potential threats from the new technology. During the chaos of "Sugar Rush" characters running from a disconnecting game and seeking refuge, the Surge Protector extends temporary shelter within Game Central Station, reminiscent of past unplugged game crises.

Going to Fix-It Felix Jr., the Surge Protector witnesses Felix and Calhoun's proposal to adopt the displaced racers, expressing concern about the undertaking's practicality. His doubts are confirmed when the commotion afterwards finishes in a hilarious collision with a racer carrying a block.

Assigned to guard the Internet gateway, the Surge Protector falls prey to distraction created by Ralph and Vanellope, enabling their quest for a replacement wheel. At the end of the movie, as everyone is celebrating "Sugar Rush" being restored, Felix and Calhoun give the Surge Protector some parenting advice, but it is muffled by the sound of racing motors.
