Origin

Pedro is a Disney character who first appeared in the 1942 animated short, "Saludos Amigos". He is a small airplane who lives in Chile with his parents.

During the plot of "Saludos Amigos", Pedro takes center stage as the main character. He wants to be just like his father, known as Papa Plane, recognized for ferrying mail across the Chile-Argentina route. Pedro learns the nuances of the Santiago-Mendoza postal route through aviation instruction, emulating his father's heritage. Pedro starts on a voyage to Mendoza, his first mission involving mail retrieval, in defiance of his parents' inability to perform the postal route.

Pedro's trip is briefly delayed when flying through the Upsallata Pass, when he encounters Aconcagua, the enormous mountain he has to go over. Pedro feels a rush of delight when he arrives in Mendoza and completes his duty, expecting his parents' approbation. However, disregarding his parents' advice to avoid downdrafts and Aconcagua, Pedro pursues a condor back to the difficult mountain, surrendering to fear in the face of the approaching storm.

Pedro's return to the airport is full of difficulties since he gets caught in a torrential downpour and lacks vision on his return journey. His survival is doubtful as he runs out of gasoline and is enveloped by the storm. Contrary to his parents' expectations, Pedro survives the storm and arrives at the airport with his mail intact. The cargo turns out to be a postcard, much to his astonishment, but his parents' pleasure and his personal sense of success remain unshakable, having completed the assignment and confirming his self-satisfaction.
