Origin

Gillette is a supporting character in Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. He is a lieutenant of the British Royal Navy that has served people such as Commodore Norrington, and later Captain Barbossa during the search for the Fountain of Youth.

Gillette has brown hair and brown eyes. During his youth, Gillette joined the British Royal Navy and was assigned to serve under Lieutenant James Norrington. He was stationed in Port Royal alongside Norrington's troops, and when Norrington was promoted to Captain, Gillette continued to serve under him. However, he stood out from other officers with his haughty expression and the presence of a white wig on his head, which is customary for the British military. Similar to other British officers, he wore a blue coat with gold stripes, a white waistcoat with matching stripes and metal buttons beneath the coat, and a white shirt underneath. Furthermore, he sported a girt belt of the same hue as his waistcoat, which holds a flintlock pistol and sword. Completing his ensemble was a triangular hat with identical stripes to those found on his coat. As he advanced in rank, Gillette became Norrington's most loyal and dependable officer, serving as his right-hand man.

Gillette's combat skills are unknown due to his preference for avoiding fights, but he is experienced enough to survive in battle with immortal pirates. Additionally, he likely has sailing experience since he was the main assistant of Commander Norrington aboard the HMS Dauntless and later Hector Barbossa aboard HMS Providence.

Gillette was a staunch opponent of piracy and followed orders given to him. He exhibited great loyalty to his commanders and obeyed their orders without question. However, he had a sarcastic and arrogant demeanor, often replying to conversations with subtle insults. Despite this, he was a coward and preferred to avoid battles when possible. This was evident when he surrendered HMS Dauntless in Port Royal without a fight when Jack Sparrow and Will Turner pointed pistols at him.

Initially, Gillette did not believe in the supernatural and laughed at Elizabeth's warning about the immortality of pirates. However, his perspective changed when he saw skeletal pirates Pintel and Ragetti approaching HMS Dauntless in a boat under the moonlight.

By the time of the events in On Stranger Tides, Gillette had become less arrogant and cowardly. However, his habit of making sarcastic remarks persisted, as seen when he emphasized that Hector Barbossa has only one leg ("Footstep, actually").
