Origin

Gene is a minor antagonist in Disney's 2012 animated feature film, Wreck-It Ralph and its sequel. Gene is the mayor of Niceland, a town within the arcade game "Fix-It Felix Jr", which prompts him to dislike Ralph whose job is to ruin their penthouse.

On the 30th anniversary of their game, Gene, Felix, and the Nicelanders are enjoying the festivities in the penthouse, joined by an array of video game characters like Sonic and Pac-Man. Unexpectedly, Ralph shows up at the door, prompting Gene to slam it shut in his face, fearing that Ralph will spoil the celebration. Despite attempts to shoo him away, Ralph is indirectly invited in by Felix which annoys Gene. As tensions rise, Ralph questions if winning a medal would earn him respect, to which Gene cynically retorts that even if Ralph did win, he would still be the wrecking bad guy. Ralph's outburst proves Gene right as he smashes the cake in frustration before storming off to seek a medal.

The following day, a player discovers Ralph missing from the game, with Mr. Litwak marking it "out of order" and threatening to unplug it if not fixed by morning. Felix sets out to bring Ralph back but does not return, prompting the Nicelanders to flee to Game Central Station. When Ralph returns with a medal, Gene is the only one left in the penthouse. Drinking martini, he gives Ralph a key and leaves him all alone in the penthouse claiming that now Ralph can finally live there just as he always wanted.

Fortunately, Ralph saves Felix from imprisonment and they return in time to save the game. Realizing Ralph's significance, Gene and the Nicelanders change their attitude towards him, even presenting him with his own cake. At Felix and Sergeant Calhoun's wedding, Gene is surprised by the soldiers aiming their rifles at the window as he is unaware of the tragedy that happened to Calhoun in the past.

In the sequel, Gene's role is very small but he appears as one of the characters willing to help homeless "Sugar Rush" inhabitants as their game is unplugged. He takes Sour Bill and gives him a place to stay.
