Origin

Cotton is a pirate from the "Pirates of the Caribbean" series, notable for having his tongue cut out by Mungard before joining the crew of the Black Pearl. He trained his parrot to speak for him, making the bird his voice.

In "The Curse of the Black Pearl", Cotton is first introduced as part of Jack Sparrow's crew. During a battle between the Black Pearl and the HMS Interceptor, Cotton helps load cannons but is later captured alongside the crew. Elizabeth Swann rescues them, though the crew initially refuses to aid in Jack Sparrow's rescue. Ultimately, they do save him from the gallows.

In "Dead Man's Chest", Cotton and the crew are stranded in Pelegostos but manage to escape with Will Turner's help. His parrot returns to him, and they continue their quest to find the Dead Man's Chest. Cotton survives various dangerous situations, including battles and encounters with the Kraken.

In "At World's End", Cotton and the crew travel to Singapore to obtain the Mao Kun Map. Cotton aids in escaping from ambushes and ultimately reunites with Jack Sparrow in Davy Jones' Locker. After the Kraken's death and a mutiny, Cotton participates in the final battle at the maelstrom, contributing to the defeat of the East India Trading Company.

Origin

Shansa is a character from the 2017 Disney live-action film "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales". She is known for her supernatural skills in revealing hidden knowledge, which proves valuable to others facing difficult challenges. For instance, she helps Barbossa by sharing vital details about the Trident of Poseidon, a powerful artifact that Captain Salazar is relentlessly pursuing to seek revenge against Jack Sparrow.

In order to get in contact with her, Barbossa bribes a prison guard to gain entry to her lair, where Shansa offers him tea as part of her customary payment for her services. During their encounter, she reveals that Salazar’s true target is Jack Sparrow, not Barbossa. She informs Barbossa that Jack is searching for the Trident of Poseidon with Carina Smyth aboard the Black Pearl.

Later, Shansa is seen in a prison cell where she is asked by Lieutenant Scarfield to help the marines find Jack. She warns that Salazar’s crew burns ships at night and advises the marines to follow the stars to track the Dying Gull. Shansa’s fate beyond this point remains unclear.
