Origin

Boo is one of the main protagonists of Disney/Pixar's 2001 animated film, Monsters, Inc. Boo behaves as could be expected of a child of her age: she is excitable, naïve and highly curious. Boo wandered into the Monsters, Inc. factory after escaping from Randall, who had intended to use her as a subject for the scream extractor. Though initially fearful of Randall, Boo typically does not fear monsters – she instantly takes a liking to Sulley, nicknaming him ‘Kitty’.

Boo quickly grows attached to Sulley, and he grows to care for her in response. The two form a strong bond; Sulley does everything in his power to keep Boo safe, and Boo, despite her fear of Randall, leaps to Sulley’s defense when Randall puts his life in danger.

Boo also forms a bond with Mike Wazowski; though he is initially quite wary of her, he does warm up to her over the course of the film. She tends to refer to him by his full name, which he takes as a term of endearment by the time she returns to the human world.

Though Boo is bright for her age, she still acts as one would expect of a toddler: she is easily distracted and, at times, fails to grasp the gravity of her situation. Nevertheless, she proves herself to be kind-hearted, cheerful and spirited – traits which turn out to be integral to resolving the energy crisis in Monstropolis.
