Grind Pipe, also known as Side Rail or Blue Pipe, is one of the elements that exist on most race tracks. As the name suggests, they are long blue tubes which are located either on the left or on the right side of the road. Players can jump on them and glide gaining Speed Boost and cutting the route short.

Should I jump on the Pipe or drive on the road?
The Pipes can be located in different places and lead to various end points.
- If the Pipe allows the player to have a short cut, it is the faster way to get from point A to point B.
- Sometimes the Pipe is located along the road, side by side, and in this case the player is better off staying on the road if they are not balancing on the Pipe (swinging left and right) successfully. If the player is balancing successfully, they generate a boost and get some autoboost from time to time so it is better than staying on the road.
Is there any Class bonus?
All Classes have the same effect while staying on the Pipe.
How can I gain Boost on the Pipe?
There are two options to gain Speed Boost on the Pipe:
- Remain balanced and horizontal to get the best bonus.
- Swing left and right to fill in the Speed Boost Bar gradually.
A secret trick: jumping off when the rail finishes will maintain extra speed a little longer.
Are all Pipes the same?
The Pipe hidden behind pencils
The Pipe after the pencils are broken (needs jumping on)
All the Pipes on all the maps where they are located work the same way. However, there are small variations:
- Pipe route:
- A pipe can go along the road (for example, Toon Village track);
- A pipe can give a short cut;
- Pipe length;
- Pipe start:
- A Pipe can have a smooth entrance where it is possible to drive onto it;
- A Pipe can have a sharp entrance where the player has to jump onto it;
- A Pipe can be hidden behind objects (for example, pencil fences on Andy's Room track);
- A pipe can have a lower entrance where the player has to drive off the surface to get onto it (for example, the Pipe in the lava area on Kaua'i track).
Do I get anything for slipstreaming?
While on the Grind Pipe, players are indeed right behind each other, so whoever is not the first one is slipstreaming. This counts for missions that require slipstreaming time, however, it does not provide any additional nitro fuel.
